If you care for an elderly parent, preparing for ICT involves more than finding someone willing to visit. The replacement arrangement must cover the actual help your parent needs, at the times it is needed, with people who can safely provide it.

Start with the care plan and the call-up dates. This is a planning guide, not a clinical assessment, a promise of a respite place or a decision on deferment.

The difficult part of a Midshipmen Sea Training Deployment is not only the time at sea. It is the uncertainty before it: a partner or parent wants to know when contact will be possible, what the cadet will be doing, and what kind of support will actually help.

Official sources explain the purpose and training content of MSTD. They do not publish a standing promise for phone access, internet availability, current routes, port calls, shore leave, or daily schedules. Those details can change and may be operationally sensitive.

The useful plan is therefore simple: learn what MSTD is, get current instructions from the cadet's chain of command, agree on expectations before departure, and do not treat silence as proof that something is wrong.

This guide is unofficial. Current instructions from the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN), Officer Cadet School (OCS), Midshipman Wing, ship crew, and commanders override anything here.

Before ICT, a family can agree that “someone will handle the kids” without agreeing who is collecting them on Thursday. A useful childcare plan turns that vague promise into named people, confirmed times and a backup for the awkward day.

This is a household planning guide for an NSman with children. It does not determine leave eligibility, change a call-up or promise that a childcare problem will qualify for deferment.
