Changing Employer Before ICT: Home Team Pay Checklist
A call-up can land between your final week at one company and your first week at another. The useful starting point is an exact employment timeline. Do not assume a pay record based on earlier wage data already describes the job you will hold during training.

Quick version
- Map the two employment periods and call-up dates.
- Confirm the new payroll arrangement with the new employer.
- Track any correction to its final outcome.
Why an employer change deserves a closer look
The MHA NS Pay FAQ says employed NSmen's automated make-up pay uses CPF wage data. It also distinguishes employers on the DIRECT scheme, which continue salary and receive reimbursement, from those outside it, where reimbursement is made to the NSman after the relevant salary deduction.
The practical implication is that a job change can affect both the evidence being reviewed and the party handling payroll. A previous employer's arrangement does not establish the new employer's arrangement. Ask the new payroll team rather than assuming the same payment path carries across.
This guide focuses on SPF and SCDF NSmen using Home Team payment guidance. SAF NSmen should use their own current OneNS payment instructions. NSVault cannot determine an individual make-up pay entitlement or approve a correction.
Draw a date map before discussing amounts
Write down the old employment end date, new employment start date, call-up start and end dates, and the civilian working periods affected. Include any gap between jobs. Distinguish the last day you attend the office from the contractual employment end date if they differ.
Keep the relevant contract or employment confirmation, final payslip and new payroll contact details. This is a preparation list, not a statement that every document will be required for every case. The official service or payroll team should identify the evidence needed for your circumstances.
A simple example is leaving Company A on a Friday, beginning Company B the following Monday and starting training later that month. Your enquiry should show those dates explicitly. Saying “I recently changed jobs” leaves the reviewer to guess which employer is involved during the absence.
Ask each employer a different question
Ask the former employer to clarify any final salary entries or pending NS-related adjustments connected with its employment period. Ask the new employer who handles reservist payroll and whether it uses DIRECT. Send the call-up information through the employer's appropriate channel.
Avoid asking both teams to submit an identical claim “just in case”. First establish which record is incorrect, which period it concerns and who should act. If both employers appear in the same issue, explain that context to the official payment channel instead of trying to force it into a single-employer assumption.
The goal is one consistent factual account, with each employer confirming its own dates and payroll treatment. Keep a short note of what each team has already done so later enquiries do not restart from an outdated version.
Inspect the generated record
When the payment information is available, check the activity, employment information and amount shown. Compare them with your date map. If something seems wrong, describe the exact mismatch rather than replacing the amount with your own estimate.
MHA's FAQ says that after the ORNS activity has started, adjustments and supporting documents are submitted through the linked MHA NS Pay form. Follow the FAQ's current instructions for your activity stage and situation. A submitted request is not proof that the change has been accepted or paid.
Keep the submission reference and response together. If your employer submits it, ask for confirmation of the relevant action without requesting access to the employer's account.
Reconcile the outcome across both records
After a correction, compare the official payment record with the relevant civilian payslip. Ask about a remaining discrepancy using the same timeline and reference. Do not treat two incoming bank transfers as proof of an overpayment or underpayment without establishing what each covers.
CPF is another line worth checking with payroll. CPF Board's payment guidance explains employers' contribution responsibilities during NS training. Ask which employment period and wages the contribution covers if the changeover month is confusing.
Close the enquiry only when you understand the outcome or know what remains pending. Save the final response with the original date map. That compact record is more useful for a follow-up than a long chat history containing several different explanations of when you changed jobs.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should both employers submit the same claim?
First establish the affected period, incorrect record and responsible party. Avoid duplicate submissions made just in case.
What if there is a gap between jobs?
Show the gap explicitly in the timeline and ask the official payment channel how it affects your case.
Does submission mean a correction is approved?
No. Keep the reference and check the response and subsequent payment record.
