SAF Driving Licence Conversion Before ORD
Being trained to drive in the SAF does not by itself guarantee a civilian driving licence. Current MINDEF guidance says an SAF Transport Operator must meet the required driving mileage and safety standards and have a good disciplinary record.
That matters if you are in a stay-out posting, have limited driving details, or keep hearing that 4,000km automatically means conversion. The 4,000km figure comes from an official 2018 explanation. MINDEF's latest July 2026 answer confirms that mileage still matters but does not publish a number, the class awarded, or a universal application timeline.
This guide separates what is current, what is historical, and what your unit needs to confirm before ORD. It is unofficial. Your unit's current transport instructions, MINDEF, and Traffic Police override it.
