Farewell of Slavianka

About the Song

"Proshchaniye slavyanki" (Farewell of Slavianka) is arguably the most famous Russian military march. Composed in 1912 by Vasily Agapkin during the First Balkan War, it was written as a farewell to Slavic women seeing their men off to war. The march is played at virtually every Russian military departure ceremony and at Moscow railway stations when trains depart. It has become a symbol of Russian military tradition.
